JIM AND DIANNE KOSKE

Founders

Dianne and Jim founded CrossFit Oyster Point in 2010. Since opening it’s doors as one of the first CrossFit Affiliates in the Tidewater area, this athletic training center has become a prime coaching resource for high school, college and recreational athletes as well as those individuals looking to just exercise. CrossFit Oyster Point also has a very active program for individuals over the age of 50. Jim’s diverse skill set, focused coaching and warm personality allows him to utilize his professional training as a physical therapist and strength coach to provide a comprehensive, safe and positive environment for all members.

Jim graduated from Old Dominion University with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy. Since 2000, he has helped individuals achieve goals related to functional mobility. Jim knows the importance of being physically fit in order to perform daily functional activities safely. In 2010, Jim and Dianne saw the opportunity to enhance their abilities to help individuals optimize their functional capabilities and fitness level by becoming CrossFit Level 1 trainers. Jim and Dianne passionately believe in the life-changing benefits of functional fitness. Their goal as CrossFit coaches and owners is to inspire individuals to make long-term lifestyle changes.

Jim and Dianne believe that the mindset of the staff they hire and the individual who participates in a sport and/or fitness training plays a vital role in the success of any program.

Jim works full time as a Physical Therapist as well as coaches at CrossFit Oyster Point throughout the week. Jim is a weekend warrior who likes to test the limits of his physical and mental capabilities. Jim’s biggest accomplishment is spending 21 days climbing the highest mountain in North America, 20,320 ft Mt. McKinley in Alaska.

Dianne Koske is President and Co-Owner of CrossFitOP. She’s been a CrossFit Coach since 2010 and is a CrossFit Level 2 trainer. She graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Finance and Communications. She also holds her Series 6, 63, 26 and 7 investment licenses. She has worked with American Funds Investment Company for more than 17 years as a National Accounts Manager. Dianne left the financial industry to pursue spreading the word about CrossFit and how through CrossFit, you can live a bigger and better life. Dianne also played competitive beach volleyball for over 17 years and her favorite part of beach volleyball is diving in the sand to get that pass you think is out of reach! In 2007, Dianne ruptured a disc diving for one of those balls and thought her volleyball career was abruptly shortened until she met CrossFit. CrossFit has allowed her to strengthen her body to get back into playing beach volleyball, perform CrossFit workouts at high intensity as well as building noticeable amounts of flexibility. She enjoys coaching all levels of athletes, from those that have not been active lately to those that are at higher levels of fitness. She loves sharing what she’s found in CrossFit with others to help them reach their personal fitness goals and have a bigger, fuller, better life.

JAMES WINKELHAKE

Coach (CROSSFIT LEVEL 2, PRECISION NUTRITION LEVEL 1)

Sports were a huge part of my life growing up.  In high school, it was soccer and basketball mostly then in college I discovered rugby.  The college lifestyle I lived, however, was not conducive to maintaining my health and fitness.  By graduation, I was the unhealthiest I had ever been.  That was the start of my lifetime fitness journey as I transitioned to the military.   Fitness became not only a necessity for lifelong health, but also for my career.  After years of searching for methodologies I could stick to, I stumbled into a CrossFit gym in 2014.  I was hooked on day one like so many others.  The same year, I was lucky enough to complete the CF Level 1 certification making me a lifelong fan.  I loved the simplicity of the methodology and the amazing results!  Most importantly, it opened doors to amazing communities.  As my journey continued, I learned the importance of proper nutrition and recovery to enable me to continue to train the way I wanted as I got older.  The more I learned how to prioritize my nutrition and recovery, the more I realized I wanted to help others do the same which led me to Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification.  As a busy professional, husband, and father, making time for my health and fitness was difficult.  Throughout my journey, I have had many wonderful coaches who inspired me and helped me prioritize my efforts to achieve my goals I now hope to inspire the same in you!

ROXANNE LORD

Coach (CrossFit Level 2, M.S. Cardiac Rehabilitation and Adult Fitness, Takano Olympic Lifting course, CrossFit Specialty Course: Mobility, CrossFit Specialty Course: Weightlifting with Coach Burgener, CrossFit Scaling Course, CrossFit Judges Course, USA Powerlifting Club Coach Certification, Member of USA Powerlifting Master’s Raw World’s Team – 2018 – 2020)

Roxanne has a B.S. in Physical Education from Springfield College and a M.S. in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Adult Fitness from University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse. She has been a college professor since 1983 teaching primarily in biology, nursing, health and physical education departments. In addition, she has taught group and individual exercise sessions for more than 40 years, to children, college students, adults and seniors.

In May of 2011 Roxanne joined a friend who had started working out at CrossFit OP. She enjoyed the friendly small group and well instructed workouts. The varied activities were challenging and fun, but more importantly proper technique was emphasized. With an exercise science background, and years of teaching biomechanics at the college level, Roxanne knew proper body movement is paramount, and a good coach’s eye for proper body alignment is critical for safety.

Roxanne has competed at the Master’s Level in the CrossFit Open competition for 9 years, with the strength components being her most competitive areas. In 2017, she began competing in powerlifting at the Regional and National levels. She set an American Record (M3) in the Back Squat at National’s (2017) and placed second overall. In June 2019, she set the World Record in Back Squat (123 Kg.) while competing for Team USA in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Roxanne decided to obtain a Level 2 CrossFit Trainer because she could see the need for master’s level athletes to have someone who understands that “we don’t have 20-year-old bodies anymore”. Functional Fitness is something we all need, especially as we age, as it allows us to continue to do the things that we love to do.

Teaching and helping people especially master’s athletes reach their potential is one of Roxanne’s passions. Roxanne said, “It is very rewarding to see the number of master level athletes actively participating at CrossFit Oyster Point dramatically increase over the last few years.”
